Celebration plays an
important role in our curriculum. One of these is each child's
birthday. It is traditional in Montessori schools to celebrate
birthdays with a specail Celebration of life. This is a special
program tagged "the birthday walk" which helps the children
understand their own personal history, and their place in the
cosmos. With the help of their parents, children bring to school
their own time line of life, with photos of birth, and one for
each year of age. They walk around in the, one full circle for
each year of life, and as they learn about time, they also realize
how important they are, and how their lives are part of the
human family history, the earth's history, and the history of
the universe. All birthday parties held in school will be scheduled
during lunchtime. These should be kept very simple and low keyed.
School photographer will take shots of the celebrants in the
school compound and the album will be presented to the parents
at a reasonable fee.
